There are between 50 and 200 times MORE occasions of a single number in a range appearing than 4 numbers in a single range.
UK LOTTERY - Ranging
What we have tried to establish is patterns in how the lottery numbers are made up. i.e. In any given week is there a structure in how the lottery numbers fall into ranges. Using our set of ranges already discussed (1-8, 9-16 etc) we have examined winning numbers since the beginning of the UK National Lottery how ranges occur and at what frequencies, see the table of results below showing the last 17 consecutive UK Lotto Draws;
Whilst we have ommitted the Bonus Ball within these calculations, you will note the figures are tagged onto the last column for reference purposes.
The Table has been colour coded in order to show on a draw by draw basis, how many numbers have fallen into the selected ranges. It would be possible although not probable to get a maximum of 2 x 3's in any one lottery draw, but only one 4, 3 x 2's or 6 x 1. (or a multiple combination)
What is very obvious from the table above is that there is only cell in the main body of the table (Balls 1-6) coloured red with the number 4 inside, there are only 2 with the number 3. This is quite an average representation and is reflected across past lottery results. It has a bearing on why we should consider ranges when making our selection in order to maximise the chances of producing winning numbers.
We conclude the following; If you have 4 or more lottery numbers within any of the given ranges you are dramatically reducing your chances of a "big" lotto win as they very rarely occur. There is a flip side to that coin which we will discuss later within ranging (i.e. The 3 in 10 approach).
To finish off this section a brief explanation of the Counts at the top of the table, which represent "per column" (or individual range), the overall count of how many occurrences there have been since the national lottery began in 1994. You will note we have not counted zero's although the table can be ammended to do so. (If you add the counts of 1-4 and take away from the last lottery draw number e.g.1418 you can calculate the correct amount of zeros).
